Kimmo Frondelius opened the seminar with a practical presentation on co-creation. He demonstrated how Innokas collaborate with their customers using various tools and shared insights from real-world scenarios. There was great interest in the Polarion tool, and the session received insightful questions about how documents are shared within it.
Tapio Tuomola delivered a spot-on presentation on agile systems engineering. He explained how successful projects require definition of three high level things: WHY you are doing it, HOW will you manage your work throughout the project (Agile) and WHAT are you going to create (Systems Engineering). Winning organizations in the world know how to combine Agile project management with structured knowledge management practices of Systems Engineering.
Suvi Rikkilä brought a practical perspective on developing complex, regulated devices, discussing how to choose the right partners and manage cooperation between multiple R&D teams.
In the final session, the highly experienced Risto and Kirsi-Marja, both with long histories at ABB Drives, tackled some pressing questions. They explored why product development has become more challenging, why devices are increasingly complex, and how easy it has become to lose sight of customer needs in the race to create the next most sophisticated device. Attendees walked away with many practical tips after this discussion.
Throughout the presentations, several common themes emerged: the importance of cooperation across different fields, experts, departments, and partners; good communication; transparency; and mutual respect between all parties involved.
