Boosting Efficiency in Meeting Customer and Regulatory Requirements
Faced with the challenge of meeting complex customer and regulatory requirements while enhancing operational efficiency, Patria turned to Taipuva for a solution. The result? A unified platform that streamlined processes, provided full traceability, ensured compliance and aligned with industry standards and customer expectations.
In many industries, balancing efficiency with strict regulatory compliance is a challenge, especially when the standards are high. Patria is a modern and international defence and technology company with over 100 years of experience. They faced complex regulations, such as DO-178C in the aviation industry, while also needing to optimise their processes.
To tackle this, Patria teamed up with Taipuva in 2022, selecting the Polarion solution to simplify and unify requirement management across multiple projects. For Krista Puustelli, Vice President of Capability Development at Patria, finding a partner who truly understood their needs was key:
“Taipuva checked all the boxes for us, from their industry expertise to their ability to adapt to the specific needs across our business areas. Their guidance has been consistent and invaluable throughout the journey,” she explains.
From fragmentation to automation
Before the collaboration, Patria struggled with fragmented tools and manual processes in the selected pilot project. The team spent a lot of time searching for data, and their existing systems couldn’t handle the growing number of requirements and test cases.
“We were using several tools that didn’t talk to each other. Hours were spent searching for the right data, and we lacked traceability between requirements and testing,” Krista says.
With the implementation of Polarion, requirement management and testing was consolidated onto a single platform and became more integrated, and full traceability became a given – a critical need for aviation compliance.
“When everything is in one place, we no longer have to manually trace requirements down to the code level. The process is automated, saving us time and reducing the risk of errors,” Krista explains. “This increased efficiency allows us to focus on delivering high-quality products and services to our customers while staying compliant with the strict industry standards.”
The flexibility of Polarion has been another significant advantage, especially given the broad scope of Patria’s operations.
“The tool supports our various projects and allows easy transfer of data and integrations with legacy systems like DOORS, JIRA and Confluence. Thanks to clear dashboards and reporting features, we have an improved overview of project status, requirements, and upcoming steps, which has improved both efficiency and control,” Krista adds.
A collaboration that delivers
As Patria continues to grow internationally and implement Polarion across more businesses, the benefits of streamlined processes and enhanced traceability become even more apparent. A key to their success in the Polarion implementation projects has been the strong, trust-based collaboration with Taipuva.
“Taipuva’s team has supported us from day one, particularly Tapio and Petri. They’ve provided proactive solutions that meet our needs,” says Krista. “Even without direct access to our secure environments, they’ve found ways to assist us, often meeting face-to-face to resolve more complex issues.”
Reflecting on the journey so far, Krista is confident that the relationship with Taipuva will continue to evolve.
“I’ve worked with many consulting companies, and it all comes down to trust. Taipuva has delivered on their promises, and I would absolutely recommend them to other companies,” she says. “They’re not just a service provider – they’re a true partner helping us achieve our goals.”
